2014 Dream Big! Boston Marathon Team Running to Provide Girls In Need with the Basic Items and Fees Needed to Participate in Sports & Physical Activities.
27 Dream Big! Marathon Team Members from Australia, Canada, Tennessee, Illinois, Washington, New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Massachusetts run in honor of last year’s marathon victims and to raise over $150,000 to support Dream Big!
Every day a girl in need steps on the playing field, court or track without the proper footwear, equipment, sports attire or training. Imagine trying to run the Boston Marathon without the proper foot wear.
Thanks to the Boston Athletic Association 2014 Charity Program, Dream Big! is now in its second year as one of the 30 official BAA charities that will have a team of runners at the start of the 118th Boston Marathon on April 21, 2014. In addition to the 15 charity numbers we received from the BAA, the 2014 Dream Big! Marathon Team is made up of three other groups of amazing, dedicated and inspirational runners; some that ran for Team Dream Big! in 2013 and are returning to finish what they started last year, other runners from as far away as Australia and Washington who have qualified but want to show their support for Boston and lastly a group of 26 caring runners from the Run Now Relay team that will leave Tennessee on April 12th, 2014 and run a 1000 mile, 8 day, relay to the finish area of the Boston Marathon to honor last year’s victims while raising funds for Dream Big! and the One Step Ahead Foundation.
On April 21st the Dream Big! Marathon Team, made up of 27 runners from around the world, will take to the start line of the Boston Marathon to help breakdown the economic barrier that currently prevents thousands of girls from low-income families in Massachusetts from participating in sports and physical activities. When
Dream Big!, a Massachusetts based charity, works to provide low-income and homeless girls with equipment, uniforms, athletic footwear, program fees, training expenses, sports opportunities and the supplies they need to participate in sports and physical activities that contribute to their overall health, education and well-being.
Over the past three and a half years Dream Big! has had a direct, positive effect on more than 5000 girls in need through equipment and sports attire donations, program scholarships, sports clinics and the annual Dream Big! Leadership Conference for middle & high school female athletes from urban communities.
Unfortunately, poverty can severely limit a young girl’s involvement in sports. Dream Big! is working to breakdown the financial barrier that currently prevents girls from participating.
Dream Big! would like to say a very special thank you to the Boston Athletic Association for allowing us to be a part of this amazing program that will take Dream Big! to a whole new level through the funds raised over these three years. We would also like to thank our very special 2014 team of dedicated runners as well as coaches whose commitment to bettering the lives of girls in need through sports is so greatly appreciated.
I hope you will join Dream Big! in support of the thousands of amazing girls we serve. The team goal is to raise $175,000. Please consider making a donation that will allow Dream Big! to buy a pair of sneakers or pay for a summer sports camp for a girl in need. Give the gift of confidence and self-esteem that will last a lifetime! When the 27 Dream Big! runners cross the finish line in Boston on April 21, 2014 not only will their lives be changed forever but together with your support they will have been able to impact the lives of thousands of girls!
